  38. PMRFs based on this information will not be compatible with the new Printing Manager architecture that will be provided in a future release of System software (sometime after System 7.0).

There is only limited documentation on this topic.  Since applications use the Printing Manager in different ways, compatibility problems are common, and require the abilities of someone skilled in debugging.  Although MacDTS is supporting the development of PMRFs, we have limited experience.  We will not be able to provide complete answers to all of your questions.

  42. Although all of the Macintosh specific interaction is described, some routines (such as halftoning and line layout ) are considered device-dependent as well as proprietary and are not covered.  See the Required Reading section for some ideas on where to find more information.

The current implementation of background printing is considered temporary, and will not be documented for use by PMRF developers.  Although some extemely resourceful developers have been able to implement background printing in the current architecture, developers of PMRFs supporting devices that require background printing (i.e. extremely slow devices) should wait for the new Printing Manager architecture.
